Indra Nooyi- CEO and Chairperson at Pepsi Co
Pepsi's chief is a powerful force behind the consumer giant's strong profit pipeline and $108 billion stock market valuation. Formerly CFO and president, the Indian-born strategist reached the top even though she never ran a line operation at Pepsi. Nooyi believes in constant reinvention: "The minute you've developed a new business model, it's extinct, because somebody is going to copy it."
Marilyn Orcharton
Marilyn Orcharton is a serial entrepreneur. A qualified dentist, her first business was a dental practice. In 1986 she co-founded Denplan Ltd, a company which is still the UK market leader with a multi-million pounds turnover. In true entrepreneurial style, Orcharton sold her stake in 1992 and founded Kite Consultants Ltd which has researched and developed ISOPLAN, a unique business management software package for professional outlets: dentists, doctors, nursing homes, lawyers etc. Identifying a gap in the market, she is now transforming the bricks and mortar company into an e-commerce business with transactions being carried out over the internet. |

Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was signed on January 29th 2009 by President Obama, the first bill he has signed while in office.
The Act is named after a feisty grandmother from Alabama who worked for the Goodyear tyre plant for 19 years before discovering that she was paid significantly less than her male counterparts with the same or less experience.
President Obama said that "it is fitting that the very first bill I sign, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act…is upholding one of this nation's founding principles: that we are all created equal."
The Ledbetter Act corrects a Supreme Court decision which limited the ability of women workers to sue for wage discrimination. The Act helps not only women, but all workers who are victims of wage discrimination on the basis of sex, race, colour, religion, national origin, age, or disability.
Lilly Ledbetter went on to become a poster girl for Obama’s election campaign, giving a rousing speech at the Democratic Convention and featuring in a series of Obama’s campaign ads – a truly inspirational woman |

Sahar Hashemi Coffee Republic In 1995 Sahar Hashemi together with her brother Bobby founded Coffee Republic, and built it into one of the UK’s most recognised high street brands with a turnover of £30m. Giving up highly professional jobs, as a lawyer in London , they staked everything on a dream - and made Coffee Republic one of the main players in the ‘coffee revolution’ that transformed a nation of tea drinkers into one obsessed with ‘triple decaf half-caf lattes’.
There story is fascinating and an inspirational tale of the ups and downs of following your dream. It a personal story about two people who stopped ‘thinking about it’ and ‘did it’. In October 2003 Sahar was honoured to be invited to Buckingham Palace as a 'Pioneer to the life to the nation' to celebrate her and other achievers contribution to the Queen's reign. Her book, published in January 2003, Anyone Can Do It, became an instant bestseller (Number 1 on the Amazon business chart, The Guardian top 10 micro-chart etc.). The book is ‘suggested reading’ for the London Business School entrepreneurship course: Sahar’s message is Anyone Can Do It! With her passion and enthusiasm, she motivates and inspires the audience: ‘you don’t have to be Richard Branson to start your own business!’. |
