Women in Business recently held another business lunch. This was hosted by Cathy Waddell, Sales Manager at The Premier Inn in Waring Street. The purpose of these small informal lunches is to allow more intense networking for members and guests. These lunches are lively, stimulating and interesting and give our guests and members the opportunity to network, discuss current issues and the chance to voice their views.

  • FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS PREDICT GROWTH

More than a third of women entrepreneurs in the UK are projecting positive revenue growth this year, according to figures from business advisory firm Deloitte. The annual report, 'Entrepreneurship UK: 2009/10 – On your Marks', reveals that 36.7% of women entrepreneurs are forecasting up to 10% revenue growth in 2009/10.

  • WOMEN FAILING TO EXPLOIT ONLINE NETWORKS TO BOOST BUSINESS...

71% of women are reluctant to use online social networks for professional purposes, failing to exploit their potential to improve business and career prospects. In contrast 64% of men are maximising the business and social opportunities that sites such as Twitter can present. The research from Enterprise UK, released on Women's Enterprise Day, shows that women surveyed prefer to keep their business and social lives separate, whilst men are reaching out to friends and professional contacts for business advice and support.   • RECESSION IS IMPACTING ON GENDER BALANCE IN UK BOARDROOMS

The number of women in the UK's top boardrooms has been hit by the recession, according to a new report. The Female FTSE Index and Report, published by Cranfield University School of Management, said there had been a "discouraging decline" in the number of FTSE 100 companies with female executive directors over the course of 2009, falling from 16 to 15. The number of companies on the index with multiple women board directors has also fallen from 39 to 37 over the year. Read more »

Women's Enterprise Day at Belfast Castle
was a huge success with over 75 people in attendance. Addressing female entrepreneurs, the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Naomi Long said "businesswoman had an important role to play in contributing to the economy". In addition, WIB Keynote speaker, Inez McCormack, Chair of the Participation and Practice of Rights Project speech proved to be inspirational and extremely thought provoking.

Michael's Crystal Ball Says Sell Sell Sell
WIB had another great result from its members and guests when W5 hosted a large group of Female Entrepreneurs as Women in Business prepared for the end of the recession. Over 70 business women heard guest speaker Michael McIntyre from Envision Management Consultants forecast that the recession will end soon and that businesses should double their selling efforts and be better prepared for the recovery.

Targeting all economically inactive women in NI, this FREE and exciting Programme aims to; encourage women to return to the workplace after an absence, find new employment, or start their own business.

This new free initiative developed and run by Women in Business has been launched recently, called Women into Business. It is an online programme which offers tailored support and information to women of all ages who want to enter or re-enter the workplace, through employment or self-employment.
