Linen Hall Library helps make selling simple for small businesses

The Linen Hall Library played host to twenty-two local small business owners and managers keen to discover the secret of successful selling at a one-day workshop on Wednesday 23 March.

Co-hosted by Business in the Community, Women in Business NI and CCS Training Services, the event was sponsored by ESB Independent Energy and designed to demystify the art of selling, provide a simple model to follow for any sales call, and help dramatically increase sales conversion rates.

Quell Staff take time out from Workplace Violence to help Children in Uganda.

Staff from Holywood based company Quell took time out from their usual business of workplace violence and risk management to travel to Uganda, a country which has seen its fair share of violence and conflict in the past. Forget quotas for women on boards - let's get on with business

Lord Davies calls for review of the selection criteria, stating that there should be a greater emphasis on a broader mix of skills and experience (not just financial and business and board experience). He describes the pipeline challenge, the brain drain of women between middle and senior management. And he reports that informal networks influential in board appointments, the lack of transparency around selection criteria and the way executive search firms operate, were together considered to be make up a significant barrier to women reaching boards.

Its Taxing... but do the due diligence

The value of networking and the events one must attend in order to do it was reinforced for me last week.

The Corporation Tax Debate at Queens University Belfast was certainly filled with business leaders to whom I could promote our extremely effective and exceptional value for money network that Women in Business NI is... but more than this the debate was very informative.

A room full of businesses; yes, the majority wanted Corporation Tax (CT) reduced to 12.5% and the majority were not concerned about the cost to NI, £300+ million was ok!
