New Yoga Studio Launches!
Claire Ferry, owner of Maitri Studio and yoga teacher, is happy to share this moment with friends, family and local businesses, and anyone who might find something to for themselves to enjoy at the studio. “We’ve such a range of classes we hope everyone can find a class to suit”, she says. “Come along on the open day and try a taster class in yoga, tai chi or pilates, or get a short complementary therapy treatment”.

Claire has been teaching yoga for ten years and gave her up previous career in nature conservation just over two years ago for a change of lifestyle and self-employment. Like many other Women in Business members, she’s not looked back! “I like the instant feedback in classes, where people might arrive feeling a bit stressed or tired, but leave feeling relaxed and happy.”

She realised after just a few months that there was an opening in the market for a yoga studio in East Belfast, but still centrally located only ten minutes’ walk from Central Station. Claire was also keen to provide a studio with the equipment needed for Iyengar  yoga, which uses supports (like blocks, bolsters and ropes) to help people understand the postures, especially if they have injuries. “Maitri Studio opened its doors in March, and we’ve spent the first few months getting things together and growing the number of teachers and classes” explains Claire “Now we’re ready for a celebration!”

“Maitri means ‘compassion’ and this says it all – we want the studio to be a welcoming and calm place where people feel safe and relaxed”. This ethos means there are regular classes alongside donation classes and a complementary therapy clinic where people in restricted financial circumstances donate just what they can afford.

Classes range from beginners to intermediate in a variety of yoga styles (Iyengar, flow, mother & baby, pregnancy), a men’s yoga class, tai chi and soon a pilates class. Belfast Zen meditation group meets three times a week at the studio, and there are workshops at weekends, from shiatsu and yoga, to learning to use baby slings or training in complementary therapies.

So come along on Saturday 1st November to find out more - the official speeches are at 4pm.
