Women in Business NI is delighted to bring together a collective of Northern Ireland’s leading technology companies and organisations to host the first ‘Women in Tech NI’ Conference.  This empowering one-day event will gather both female and male role models who innovate, challenge and embrace technology.  Inspirational women who have achieved great success within the sector and influential entrepreneurs will share stories of their journey. 

If you are looking to advance your career and be inspired, the line-up of conference speakers and panellists will captivate attendees, providing the skills and motivation needed to succeed.

The conference will be hosted by respected STEM Ambassador Naomh McElhatton.   Naomh has been highlighted as one of Northern Ireland’s most energetic entrepreneurs. As founder of the She Said Club, SMART NI and Northern Irelands DANI Awards, Naomh is well known for hosting conferences, leading digital transformation training and marketing consultancy around the globe.

Being heavily involved within the digital and creative industries, Naomh sits on the board of the Digital Catapult and recently delivered her TEDx Talk in Stormont highlighting our online addictions.

The Women in Tech Conference will take place at Titanic Belfast with the speakers from the morning session of the conference being streamed live from the ‘Everywoman in Tech’ Forum in London.  This screening will provide delegates with a morning of industry focussed learning as well as access to high calibre learning and development experts.

In the afternoon, local industry leaders will lead the discussion topics and chair a range of breakout sessions. Delegates will have the opportunity to attend each breakout session during the afternoon and enjoy a closing key note speech from well-known Irish technology entrepreneur and angel investor, Mary McKenna MBE. With global and local perspectives due to be presented on topical issues, the inaugural ‘Women in Tech NI’ Conference is set to be a fantastic thought provoking day!

                                    Ignite - a combination of companies in the North West of Ireland that have joined forces to create a forum promoting STEM to young females. Their mission is to inspire the next generation of female technologists and enforce the idea that the technology sector is a hugely creative, exciting and innovative world to be part of.  Ignite using the network’s joint resources, knowledge and skills identify opportunities to educate, inspire and influence female students in the local area. This panel session will share ideas and lessons learned on how we all can help inspire the next generation of technologists.

Emerging Technologies

Rachel Gawley - software specialist, CTO and founder of MedTech company, AppAttic


During this breakout, delegates will hear from Rachel Gawley discussing her involvement in emerging technologies.  Rachel was named as one of Innovate UK's Women in Innovation 2016 and has led AppAttic to be named as one of the Disrupt 100 “businesses with the most potential to influence, change or create new global markets” in 2017.

15.25 – 15.55              Keynote Speaker – Mary McKenna MBE

                                    Mary McKenna is a well-known Donegal based Irish technology entrepreneur and angel investor.  She co-founded successful Northern Irish e-learning company Learning Pool following a long public sector career and a spell as a Silicon Valley dotcommer and exited from the business in 2014 so that she could return to working with earlier stage startups.  Mary is interested in helping start and grow indigenous Irish and UK tech companies and especially in working with female entrepreneurs.  She has invested in 6 early stage tech startups to date, 3 with female founding teams.

She is one of the Entrepreneurship Experts with the Entrepreneurship Centre at Saïd Business School (University of Oxford), Entrepreneur in Residence at Catalyst Inc (the Northern Ireland Science Park in Belfast), an advisor to several governments, an EU Horizon 2020 judge, a trustee of the Centre for Acceleration of Social Technology and the first ever entrepreneur in residence at St Mary’s College, an all-girls secondary school in the Creggan area of Derry.

Mary was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen in the 2014 New Year’s Honours for services to digital technology, innovation and learning.
