Women in Business is delighted to present the Spotlight on Success Conference on Thursday 6th June at Crowne Plaza Belfast.
This unique half day conference will feature leaders from the corporate and entrepreneurial world that have climbed to the top of the organisational ladder or founded, grown and lead their own business. The personal and intimate talks from these business leaders will:
- Inspire and motivate attendees
- Explore leadership skills, style and approach
- Provide examples of overcoming obstacles, challenges and fears
- Highlight the skills required to deliver, influence and perform as a successful leader
A range of inspirational leaders will each step into the spotlight to share their personal success stories with delegates. This will be followed by a Leaders networking lunch to ensure those value connections are made.

Keynote Speaker - Rebecca Stephens MBE
Rebecca Stephens MBE is a British journalist, mountaineer and television presenter. Stephens was the first British woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Originally training as a journalist and pursuing this for ten years, Stephens was the former deputy editor of The Financial Times magazine.
Always an enthusiastic skier, in 1989, Stephens took up the sport of climbing accidentally when as a journalist she accompanied an expedition attempting the North East Ridge of Mount Everest. In 1993, Stephens was part of a later Mount Everest expedition which reached the summit of the mountain, becoming the first British woman to do so.
In November of 1994, Stephens became the third woman and the first British woman, to climb the seven continental summits of the Messner list. In February of 1996, Stephens became the fourth woman, and the second British Woman to climb all seven continental summits of the Bass list when she summited Kosciuszko in mainland Australia. Stephens was appointed an MBE in 1994 and was a presenter on the BBC‘s television’s science series Tomorrow’s World from 1994 to 1996.
Additionally, to her mountaineering exploits, Stephens has sailed the Southern Seas to the South Magnetic Pole and Antartica and crossed the South Atlantic island of South Georgia. With the polar explorers Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Mike Stroud, she competed in an eight-day Eco-Challenge, which consisted of running, biking and canoeing across the Canadian Rockies.

Prof Karise Hutchinson, Ulster University
Professor Karise Hutchinson is a Professor of Leadership at Ulster University and Provost of the Coleraine campus. Karise joined Ulster University in 2004 and was awarded a PhD in SME international management in 2006. Since 2006, she has been an integral member of the Business Management Research Institute at Ulster University, included in the 2008 RAE and REF 2014 submission as a result of her high quality research publications, external research grant income, PhD completions, and impact case study work. Her research has been presented at international conferences and published in wide range of high quality international journals. The extensive impact of her research has been recognised by the British Academy of Management Education Practice award in 2016 and the Chartered Management Institute’s Top Industry Article award in 2013.
Karise is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and holds a number of positions outside the University including, Affiliate of the Authentic Leadership Institute in Harvard, USA, Vice-Chair of the Causeway Enterprise Agency, Council member of the British Academy of Management and Faculty Board member of the Chartered Management Institute UK. Her experience includes business engagement across a range of industry sectors, where she has led several Knowledge Transfer Projects, organised a wide range of large scale events for business owners and policy stakeholders, as well as invited keynote speaker. As a result of her strong engagement with industry, Karise has been involved in national media broadcasts on well-known radio and television programs, commenting on current economic issues in Northern Ireland from the perspective of the consumer and retailer, with publications in range of regional and national newspapers.
She is the author of “Leadership Development for Small Business: The Power of Storytelling” published by Palgrave Macmillan. She received the British Academy of Management Practice award in 2016 and Outstanding Contribution to CMI award in 2018 in recognition of her work in leadership development and education. Professor Hutchinson uses her passion and experience of developing business leaders to support the growth of the SME sector in Northern Ireland.
Deborah is a Certified Public Accountant with a lengthy career in international business and tax, working with Arthur Andersen in London, Hong Kong and the United States. She also worked for almost 20 years with Oracle Corporation in California as their Senior Vice President of Tax where she was involved with site selection, mergers and acquisitions, establishment of shared service centres, corporate governance and risk assessment in addition to being responsible for the company’s global taxes, customs and duties. Deborah has also been a board member with two software companies, and was Chair of the Silicon Valley Tax Directors Group for 10 years. Deborah returned home to Northern Ireland in 2010.
She is currently on the boards of Invest NI, and the Belfast Harbour Commission. Deborah is also an Independent Assessor for the Diversity Mark NI Gender Diversity Charter Mark to help promote the benefits of equality in the workplace to both individual employees and employers. She has been a boardmember of the Queen’s University Belfast Foundation board and a Governor of Holywood Primary School.
Louise Kelly, Partner, Grant Thornton
Louise Kelly has been Audit Partner at Grant Thornton in Belfast since 2014, after joining the leading business advisory firm as a trainee in 2000.
Working with all sizes of public sector and privately-owned organisations, Louise has a portfolio that spans a broad range of clients in various business sectors including construction, education, motor retail, and manufacturing.
Throughout her Grant Thornton career, Louise has headed up the firm’s Risk, Compliance and Professional Standards department where she gained extensive technical expertise in Irish and UK GAAP and company law.
With extensive audit knowledge, having lectured for professional accountancy bodies including Chartered Accountants Ireland, Louise is also the author of Advanced Auditing & Assurance which is the audit text book used in Chartered Accountants Ireland final auditing exams.
A native of Killyclogher, Co Tyrone, Louise is mother to two young boys, so she understands the pressures of juggling family with a successful career, meeting the challenge with passion and energy.
Rachel Booker, Executive People Director, Virgin Media
Rachel is currently Executive People Director, Employee Experience, spanning centres of excellence across the employee lifecycle including Resourcing, Executive Hiring, Talent, Inclusion, Early Careers, Employee Relations, Leadership and Learning.Over the past 18 years, Rachel has used her extensive expertise, passion and knowledge to drive the strategic people agenda in the highly evolving technology industry. Rachel is a confident and dynamic leader who has proven experience leading cultural change, handling merger, acquisition and integration activity, all whilst increasing employee engagement and championing a culture of recognition. Her ability to influence business leaders to ensure the people agenda is aligned to both the commercial direction and the overall business objectives proves she is a true people professional.
