Social Bee NI Announced as Small Business Hero for Small Business Saturday Team
Small businesses across the UK are preparing themselves for the seventh annual Small Business Saturday, which will take place on 7 December 2019.

Representing Northern Ireland, social media expert Louise Brogan, founder of Social Bee NI, has been announced as one of the UK Small Business Heroes due to the huge success of Social Bee NI. Specialising in strategic planning for social media, the consultancy has spent the last six years supporting local businesses from a range of industries in strengthening and growing their social media presence.

A grassroots, not-for-profit campaign, Small Business Saturday celebrates small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and to support businesses in their communities. Originally founded by American Express in the U.S. in 2010, the campaign was launched in the UK in 2013 where it has grown in popularity and influence year-on-year.

Small Business Saturday 2018 brought in record figures, with £812 million spent in small businesses across the UK on the day. The Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Mayor of London were among those publicly supporting the campaign, alongside more than 90% of local councils. The campaign also benefits from the backing of leading business organisations including the Federation of Small Businesses, Indeed and Dell and is also supported by Amazon, printed.com, Square and Xero.

Small Business Saturday 2019 is open to all businesses to participate in and will commence its regional bus tour roadshow across the UK during the autumn, to drum up further support.

This follows last month’s announcement of the Small Biz 100, 100 unique independent businesses drawn from every corner of the UK, which reflect the vibrancy of the UK’s 5.6 million small businesses. In the 100 days running up to Small Business Saturday, the campaign is spotlighting each of the Small Biz 100 for their contributions to their communities and local economies.

Speaking about her recognition as a UK Small Business Hero, Social Bee NI Director, Louise said,

“I am delighted to be selected as a UK Small Business Hero ahead of the next Small Business Saturday. I am so pleased with how far Social Bee NI has come over the last few years and am extremely proud to see the continuous growth of the multiple small businesses we have had the pleasure to work with. I can only hope both ours and their success continues for many years to come!”

Director of Small Business Saturday, Michelle Ovens MBE said:

“Each year this campaign has grown in support from government, business and communities alike, and so we can’t wait for December to come round and put small businesses in the spotlight once again. Small businesses are the heart of their communities with 5.6 million keeping their local economies moving, providing jobs, training and unique services.

“But this is not just a campaign for one day, it is a year-round celebration of small businesses and we want to ensure the long-term success of those high street heroes and digital stars, with a campaign that showcases their contribution for months before and after Small Business Saturday.”
