I’m Lorraine Boyce. My company is Down Below Physio and I am a pelvic floor and women’s health physiotherapist. Frustrated by a lack of clinical services for women with incontinence, prolapse and so many other ‘down below’ issues, I set up a more dedicated physiotherapy clinic to cater for this in Letterkenny, Donegal.
I can honestly say I love my work. When a lady who was reliant on 3 super absorbent incontinence pads a day can now do a half marathon without a liner, there is a great feeling of satisfaction to see how much of an impact this has on her life and her sense of self.
It’s more than just Physiotherapy for your ‘Down Below', I treat ‘mummy tummy’ and Diastasis Recti, Pelvic Girdle Pain, low back pain and any pregnancy or post pregnancy dysfunction.
There’s also more to pelvic floor physiotherapy than just getting people to squeeze their muscles ‘down there’. What I do in the clinical setting in terms of treatment and rehabilitation is varied, and I have developed my online presence to talk about this. There is a lack of information out there about our pelvic health and a mindset when things go wrong ‘sure that’s just normal’. I want to change that mindset and have good quality information and treatment available for women.
I am in the final stages of recording and preparing online exercise subscription packages so that women can have 24 hour access to safe and effective pelvic floor and tummy exercises from the comfort of their own home. The packages are very specific in terms of what they cater for and will hopefully lead the way forward in this sector. There are packages for each trimester of pregnancy, and a package for Diastasis Recti, for overactive pelvic floor and so much more. What sets these packages apart is that they are specific to certain pelvic health issues and they are more than just exercises. Blogs and informational sections give women the ‘why’ as well as the ‘how’.
These online packages will be launched in the new year and for information on any of the services I offer at my clinic, visit www.downbelowphysio.ie.
