Derrys first walking food tour
Food tells you so much about a city, getting you right under the skin of its culture and people. A ‘made in Derry’ food tour offers a rich experience for both locals and tourists. Launched at the start of June, Catherine Goligher is the driving force behind this new business. ‘When the NI year of food and drink was launched back in January, I saw an opportunity in Derry. We have such a great food and drink offering, and such passionate chefs and producers. I thought we should be shouting about it more and that’s where the idea for the food tour began’

Over 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon Catherine takes you around 6 different eateries. You’ll sample over 30 different food and drinks as well as meeting the people behind it all. Everything from refreshing craft beers to mouth-watering fresh fish and even local chorizo! It’s a chance to try a number of different restaurants and taste new local produce, whilst in a relaxed group atmosphere.
‘The feedback to date has been fantastic and there have been a lot of local people on the tours so far. Many of them hadn’t eaten in the places before, which is really interesting. Precedent shows once people have experienced a restaurant on a food tour they will return and that’s been happening already. That in itself is a big win’

Derry has really pushed forward in the last few years with the Legenderry food festivals and the huge success of the Clipper Kitchens last week. People are becoming much more aware of food provenance, of our amazing local producers and importance of supporting local.
