Ladies, let’s celebrate this GALentine’s Day!

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland has teamed up with Odyssey Cinemas Belfast for a very special GALentine’s Day screening of the romantic comedy Bridesmaids, on Saturday 13th February, to raise vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research at Queen’s University Belfast.

The charity is encouraging gals to get in the mood and wear bride and bridesmaids dresses on the night - and be in with a chance to win best dressed prizes.

Lianne Wilson, Community Fundraising Officer, Cancer Focus NI, said: “GALentine’s Day, the day before Valentine’s Day, is a day for women to celebrate and spend time with all the wonderful ladies in their life.
“This special screening, which includes a luxurious prosecco reception, is a great excuse for friends, mums, daughters, sisters and aunts to get together for a fun night - and raise vital cash for potentially life-saving research, which we fund at Queen’s.

“Researchers have already discovered that there may be an alternative treatment to surgery for women with the mutated BRCA1 gene - it’s these women who have an 85% risk of breast cancer, and up to a 40% risk of ovarian cancer.

“At present, many of these women face the difficult decision to have surgery to remove their breasts and ovaries to avoid cancer. However, with your support, research could change all that. So why not make a movie date with a difference and celebrate all the wonderful ladies in your life.”

Conor McLoughlin, Events Manager of Odyssey Cinemas Belfast, said: “Odyssey Cinemas is extremely proud and happy to support Cancer Focus NI and its research work. We hope the evening will be a huge success.”

Tickets cost £10 per person (18 plus only) or £35 for a group of four and include popcorn and soft drink. For tickets email Cancer Focus NI on fundraising@cancerfocusni.org or call 028 9066 3281. Places are limited so please book to avoid disappointment.

Anyone who has concerns about cancer can speak to a specialist nurse on the Cancer Focus NI free Helpline, 0800 783 3339.
