Maitri Studio celebrates 1st birthday!

East Belfast’s wellbeing centre at Maitri Studio has really found its feet in just a year. Women in Business NI member Claire Ferry established the centre in March 2014 as a calm space for people to enjoy yoga, pilates, meditation and other classes.

Maitri Studio celebrates 1st birthday!

“When we first opened, only one studio room was ready for use. We’ve now expanded to three beautiful studios and a great diversity of classes and events” explains Claire.

“Even more rewarding is that we’re developing a real sense of community here, as people meet each other and share social time. I love being here when there are multiple events on, with people making new friendships ”.

The list of events at Maitri Studio is impressive and wide-ranging. Its central location, just 10 minutes walk from Central Station, and the welcoming atmosphere, attract enquiries every week from therapists or teachers seeking a friendly place to offer their services. A glance at the timetable for March reveals everything from regular yoga classes to gong baths, retreat mornings, a creative writing workshop, and a harp and poetry recital!

“We think it’s vital that East Belfast has this type of venue, where physical, mental and social wellbeing are integrated, and where we can offer cultural activities in the broadest sense” says Claire. “We’re looking forward to taking part in local festivals, such as EastSide Arts in August, and we are actively engaging in community outreach.”

At the moment, Maitri Studio is also a real success story for the many women who hire rooms and work there. “Most of our teachers and therapists are busy women, many of whom do this work part-time alongside a day job or raising their families. It’s great we can be flexible to support women making a start in a new career. We have women at both ends of the spectrum – newly qualified teachers who are just starting out, and women starting to think about a change of career or preparing for alternative employment towards retirement.” Claire herself has been inspired by other women she’s met through Women in Business, and enjoyed hosting a recent WIBNI networking session at the studio.

So whether you’d like a class for you to chill out and relax, or you’re looking for something to entertain the kids over Easter (there’s a children’s yoga day on 8th April), it’s worth visiting www.maitristudio.net to find out what’s going on.
