Jennifer Smyth

Founder and Director of Jenn’s Gym

Jennifer was a competitive gymnast up until the age of 16 when tragically, a freak accident during training left her paralyzed from the chest down. Determined to live her life as independently as possible, Jennifer recorded her recovery journey on social media to show others that life wasn’t over after a life changing injury. She was widely supported by the local community with fundraising efforts to allow her to travel to America for intensive physiotherapy where she was able to try out the latest advancements in technology and make huge improvements in her recovery journey. Immensely grateful for all the support she had received, she wanted to find a way to give others the same opportunity that she was given. On the 17th January 2025, she opened Jenn’s Gym Neuro Fitness Centre. A registered charity and gym offering specialised and adapted equipment allowing people with neurological conditions and disabilities to come together and train in a safe and positive environment. Using her own lived experience Jennifer is able to blend compassion with innovation, making sure that accessibility and dignity is at the heart of everything she does.
