Deirdre joined Queen’s University in 2014, moving from one great city, Liverpool to another great one, Belfast! She is passionate about opening opportunity for all who wish to participate in learning, both formally and informally, her career spans over 25 years working in widening participation including strategic and operational planning and delivery on local and national levels. Deirdre is most proud of her work supporting young people with care experience, developing programmes and frameworks to address their unique needs and challenges as they progress through their educational journey. In 2019, Deirdre took on the role of Student Development Manager, leading the team of careers consultants, continuing to deliver personal and professional development opportunities for students. An accredited and experienced coach, Deirdre set up her business, Coaching with Deirdre in 2022, providing a space for individuals to achieve personal transformation. Coaching outdoors is one of her preferred coaching spaces. Over the past two years Deirdre has held the voluntary role of chair for the Forum for Access and Continuing Education (FACE), a member organisation striving to increase educational equity in further and higher education working across the UK and Europe. In her spare time, Deirdre volunteers for the Independent visitor scheme for NIACRO and is a school governor.
