Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity Action Cancer is asking Women in Business members to support its ‘Breast Friends’ campaign and save lives by raising funds for Action Cancer’s breast
Women in Business member Leigh Osborne is Action Cancer’s Community Fundraising Manger, she said “I am calling on my fellow Women in Business members to help spread the word about Action Cancer’s breast screening service to their employees and colleagues. I imagine plenty of the women reading this will be in the correct age range for a screening so please encourage your ‘Breast Friends at work’ to book an appointment. Women very often attend screening along with a friend, family member or colleague and so who better to help spread the word about the service as well as raise funds than member of Women in Business."
As well as the free mammography service Action Cancer also provides a range of prevention and support services which costs £4m annually to fund including therapeutic support in the form of counselling and complementary therapy to those living with cancer or supporting a loved one with their diagnosis and this is available to both adults and children from age five. A peer mentoring service is available for people dealing with their diagnosis. Other therapeutic support services include acupuncture, scar therapy, physiotherapy, yoga and pilates, one-to-one and group life coaching and
In addition, the charity has an excellent Health Promotion programme providing education and awareness on how to minimise the risk of cancer through practical health and lifestyle choices and M.O.T. health checks.
These services are available from Action Cancer House in Belfast and regionally in selected venues across the country. Breast screening and health checks are available regionally on the Action Cancer Big Bus, supported by Supervalu.
