How to Create Less Stress in Your Business & Still Promote Positivity
As a business owner, you’re going to experience a myriad of wins and losses within the lifespan of your company. Hopefully, you’ll have more wins than losses. With strategic planning and supportive habits, this can be your company’s experience. As you build a business, you’ll quickly learn that stress can get the best of you if you don’t put a lid on it. Many business owners find themselves on the rat wheel and can’t figure out how to be productive without experiencing tons of stress. Implement these practices to move in the right direction.

Take Scheduled Breaks

In many cases, when a person is sitting and working for an extended period of time, it can cultivate an atmosphere of stress. First, the body is sitting in one spot. This means that blood circulation isn’t where it could be. Secondly, variety helps to keep the brain engaged and active. Have a little fun and add in a five-minute dance break. Enjoy a ten-minute game of UNO with the staff. Pull away and do a few jumping jacks to get the blood pumping. This can add some life to an otherwise stressful day.

Add Recreational Space

Everybody needs a break every now and then, especially at work. Give your employees the opportunity to let off some steam during their personal breaks. Here are several recreational ideas that might be appreciated by your employees:
  • A ping pong table
  • A gaming area with consoles and a TV screen
  • A card table for those who want to play hearts or whatnot with a coworker
For those who might feel a need for more fresh air, you could consider investing in your outdoor area. You could have a commercial paving company install a patio that could be used for your employees’ lunch breaks or, even, for outdoor meetings. You could also put in a basketball court for those who may want to do something physical outside.

Create Systems and Processes

Take a look at the daily operations of the company and figure out what’s efficient. Next, look at what’s inefficient. Improve the inefficiencies to create a better workflow. When a process is simplified, it eases a lot of the stress and tension people feel as they approach that particular task.
To fully understand what is efficient and what is not, talk to your employees. Go to their individual teams. Observe them. More importantly, though, ask them questions and listen to what they have to say regarding the processes. As they work more closely to the tasks than you do, it would be in your best interest to glean from the information they can give you. Not only will that impact productivity, but it will make your employees feel heard and appreciated. This will contribute to their work environment being less stressful for them.
Depending on the culture of your business, you might have to implement some of these tips in a gradual fashion. Sure, there are some tips you can implement immediately, but sometimes, you don’t see the results until six months down the road. Remain consistent and lean into the process. The time these steps take is worth it in the long run.
