Marine Hotel Ballycastle- WIB Member's Invitation

Claire hunter and her team at the Marine Hotel in Ballycastle have a story worth shouting about.

Claire Joined the WIB network in 2014 and has been doing exciting things in Ballycastle ever since. Including winning the Best Small Business Award in the WIB awards 2018!!

 

Claire and her childhood friend Colum McLornan bought the derelict Marine Hotel in Ballycastle, County Antrim in March 2013. It had been closed for 3 years so there was a mountain to climb!!

 

Now, in early 2019, the hotel has expanded by 10 bedrooms giving a 41 bedroom hotel, gained and maintained a high 3 star status, 5 scores on the doors, injected £2.5 million in wages into the local economy and spent over £1million refurbishing the hotel.

 

Claire says “We never wanted to be the same as all the other hotels-we want to have something unique so we have collaborated with city firm ADO-Belfast, architects of Bullitt Hotel to create a truly sea side theme with a modern twist”.

 

We have done extensive research in places like Newquay in Cornwall and the west of Ireland to come up with a product that is different. This is what you will experience when you visit the Marine in Ballycastle. And not just from the décor. Ballycastle is oozing with home made, artisan ingredients.

Pol Shields, Head Chef, is using these and others to produce and serve a fabulous seafood menu, lunches and special event menus which is quickly putting Marconi’s Bar and Bistro on the map for the best food on the coast. Ulster seafood Chowder Champion and finalist in the Institute of Hospitality awards, the accolades say it all.

 

General Manager Joanne Boyle has been the driving force in managing change: sales, staff and the growing reputation and level of business at the hotel keep her busy from day to day.
