Building Adamson Rice: Our Success Story in 5 Key Points
When Natasha Adamson and I first talked about creating our own law firm we were driven by a shared belief that legal services should be delivered with integrity, clarity and efficiency, and with a personal touch. Founding Adamson Rice was more than a professional milestone; it was the beginning of something personal, exciting, freeing and profoundly purposeful.

A law firm’s success isn’t just about legal knowledge; it’s about strategic planning, financial stability, and leveraging the right business connections. And for us, the collaborative support of WIB NI, LSNI, and our extended network was the difference between launching a practice and establishing a firm built for the future.

Reflecting on our journey so far, while our vision and determination were essential drivers, the real powerful force behind our success was the invaluable network of peers and professionals who supported us at every stage.

Here are five key points that defined our story and guided us through the highs, the challenges, and the countless decisions that go into building something from the ground up. I’m honoured to share the story of how Adamson Rice came to be;

1. A Shared Vision

Every successful business starts with a clear, united vision. For Natasha and I, our vision was simple: to create a female-led law firm where people; clients, colleagues, and communities, always come first. Having worked together previously, we already knew we made a strong team. We shared an aligned approach to client care, and we both felt a desire to break away from the rigid, often impersonal structures of traditional law firms.
We weren’t interested in status or scale for its own sake, we wanted to create a firm where high standards of legal excellence met a client experience grounded in empathy and honesty. Our complementary strengths; Natasha’s sharp strategic mind and my passion for client advocacy; allowed us to bring that vision into focus.

2. The Power of a Well-Connected Foundation

The early days were humbling. There’s something refreshingly raw about starting from scratch; no name recognition, no safety net. What we did have, however, was conviction and a fantastic network of support around us, willing us to succeed. A law firm doesn’t succeed in isolation, it thrives through connections and the strength of a professional network.

Throughout our setup process, we actively called upon other business connections and professionals including WIB NI (Women in Business NI), financial experts, marketing and insurance specialists, and IT providers for their insights, advice, and practical support, Their expertise helped us refine our strategy, anticipate challenges, and tap into valuable resources that strengthened our operations. Our regulator, The Law Society of Northern Ireland (LSNI) also provided essential regulatory guidance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.

3. Putting People at the Heart

If there’s one thing Natasha and I have always agreed on, it’s that law should be people-focused. Legal matters can be stressful, emotional, and often deeply personal. We built Adamson Rice to be a place where clients feel listened to, respected, and supported throughout their journey. That mindset shapes how we approach everything: from pricing transparency and communication style to refining our marketing and outreach strategy.
We always take the time to explain things clearly, and follow up personally, never treating a file as just paperwork. We are flexible and adaptable and make sure our services are accessible; we also aim to accommodate our clients as best we can; whether that be that home visits, office visits, or client visits to hospitals and nursing homes.  Our clients are our biggest advocates, helping spread the word about the kind of firm we are building.
Specialising in niche areas of law also further sets us apart, ensuring we build a solid reputation for expertise within our chosen fields. For us, success isn't about how many cases we handle; it’s about the quality of service we provide people.

4. Finance, Infrastructure & Sustainability

Finance | Financial planning was one of the most critical aspects of launching our firm, and we relied heavily on expert input to ensure stability. Our accountant guided us through cash flow forecasting, tax planning, and financial structuring, allowing us to establish strong foundations. A Banking connection who I had met at a mentor event was called on and provided essential support in setting up business accounts and optimising financial tools to streamline transactions. Their combined expertise allowed us to navigate financial complexities with confidence.

Infrastructure | Establishing a law firm today requires a solid technology infrastructure, and enlisted help from established IT providers. They helped us integrate legal practice management software, cloud-based storage, and cybersecurity measures tailored to our specific needs. A Cybersecurity grant from our regulator, LSNI gained us access to experts who guided us through to Cyber Essentials accreditation showcasing we undertake data protection best practices and ensuring encryption, secure client portals, and compliance with GDPR and AML regulations are tight. Our investment in digital security ensured that our operations remained seamless and compliant.

Sustainability | Every step along the way was intentional and we were and still are committed to doing things right- rather than rushing to do things fast. We actively monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess growth, refine operational processes, and explore collaboration opportunities. The LSNI’s regulatory insights help us ensure compliance.

5. Celebrating the Journey, Not Just the Wins

One of the lessons I’ve learned through this experience is the importance of pausing to celebrate not just the big victories, but the quiet wins along the way. Opening our firm doors for the first time, signing our first client, launching our website, hosting our launch party; each moment was a milestone that deserved recognition.
Natasha and I have always made space for reflection. Running a business can be relentless, but we remind each other often to step back, acknowledge how far we’ve come, and be proud of what we’re creating. We’ve also learned to embrace the hard days; the moments that test us, because they ultimately strengthen our resolve and our partnership.

Looking Ahead

As Adamson Rice continues to grow, we remain committed to the values that brought us together in the first place. We are grateful to the clients, peers, and business partners who placed their trust in us and helped shape our journey.
Adamson Rice is more than just a law firm. It’s a reflection of who we are and what we stand for: integrity, compassion, and a people-first approach to legal practice. While we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built so far, we’re even more excited about the future we’re creating.
