TEDx Stormont Women returns with a stellar line-up

TED Women runs worldwide from 1-3 November this year Belfast will host the third in the series of its own TEDx event - TEDxStormont Women.

The theme this year is ‘Bridges’ and will draw together inspirational and fearless female speakers at Stormont, who will stand on the iconic red dot and talk to more than 250 guests in the Great Hall at Parliament Buildings.

The event this year has an impressive line-up of 12 speakers and includes:

• Ana Matronic, BBC Radio 2 DJ and former member of the world-famous band Scissor Sisters

• Elizabeth Filippouli, Founder & CEO, Global Thinkers Forum

• Maxine Mawhinney, International Journalist and Broadcaster

• Jayne Gallagher, Managing Director, Legal-Island

• Rosemary Jenkinson, Writer, Artist-in-Residence, Lyric Belfast

• June Burgess, Property developer, leadership coach and international equestrian

• Clare Mulley, Award-winning author, historian of women and war

• Baroness Floella Benjamin, actor, writer and campaigner

• Vanessa Woolf, Professional Storyteller

• Tina McKenzie

• Naomh McElhatton, Director of Digital Education at SMART NI and House of Comms (UAE)

Entertainment will come in the form of the enigmatic Katie Richardson and the Women in Business Choir. Katie is a talented musician, composer, musical director and facilitator. In 2012 she was featured as one of The Irish Times ‘Northern Lights’ which profiled people changing the face of NI in their particular fields.

Katie’s alter ego ‘Goldie Fawn’ will also take to the stage and give her own TED talk.

Standing on the iconic red dot, speakers will have 12 minutes or less to share their ideas about the ways in which we build bridges, traverse them, and sometimes even burn them, for better or worse.

The sold-out event will be compered by well-known former broadcaster Sarah Travers.

The event, which is locally and independently organised, brings the TEDx brand back to the iconic Stormont. Started as a four-day conference in California in 1984, TED and the TEDx programme has grown to support world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives.
