60 seconds with Naomi Thompson

Tell us about your role and your organisation

I am a Marketing Executive at Andras Hotels, the hospitality group behind various properties across Belfast and the North Coast. My role covers planning and delivering marketing, communications, advertising, PR and events across the group’s brands.

Give us a brief overview of your career journey so far

During my final year of university, I worked part-time as an Enterprise Events & Marketing Intern in the Students’ Union. After finishing my studies (May–July), I completed an eight-week placement at enterprise agency LEDCOM as a Business & Marketing Assistant. From June to September, I also undertook a part-time remote internship with Think Pacific as a Voluntary Marketing, Business & Enterprise Intern through a university scholarship programme.

What is one skill that helps you most in your role and why?

Multitasking. Staying organised from day one creates a solid foundation that holds firm, even when setbacks happen.

What advice do you have for women in your industry?

As a recent graduate, I’d encourage students to take on freelance and internship opportunities while studying—they’ll stretch your time-management skills and help you build the experience you need. Say yes to roles and projects that support the path you want to pursue after university.

Are there any exciting plans in the year ahead for your organisation?

I’m just starting this role, so watch this space—there will most likely be exciting plans ahead!

Who has been your biggest career inspiration and why?

My nan, Margaret, has been a freelance piano teacher for most of her life—and still is at 88! She’s very active in the community, from fundraising and church activities to crochet club, and she balances it all with walks with her dachshund, Heidi, plus painting, sewing and gardening. She inspires me to do what I love and make the most of life.

P.S. Unlike my nan, I’ll probably skip paragliding as a fundraising idea—especially starting at age 80!

If you had to pick your soundtrack song to get you through the working day, what would it be?

Money, Money, Money (the Mamma Mia movie musical version) — a classic that keeps me going.
