A Slice of Heaven
Handmade with Love
Wednesday 16 January 2013

I am an unapologetic hedonist when it comes to desserts. I love the sheer indulgence of a silky chocolate mousse pie or a fruit-swirled cheesecake; the wonderful anticipation of gourmet food that has been created by true culinary artists. Researching this feature on Slice of Heaven, therefore, I feel a little like an historian would if he were being allowed to view the original Dead Sea Scrolls! For in the world of quality desserts this innovative Newtownards-based company has a reputation for excellence unrivalled throughout the entire industry.
Manufacturing high-end, hand-made, fresh desserts for the food service and retail industries, Slice of Heaven supplies a wide range of discerning restaurant groups, independent retailers and corporate clients with a delicious portfolio of desserts, tray bakes and salads.
There was a time, though, when it looked as if the Slice of Heaven name would disappear; and that is when Heather Boyle stepped in. With over 20 years experience in the catering sector she took the helm at the company in March 2008 after discovering that it was deep in debt and in danger of closing. However, Heather realised that the products were of excellent quality and deserved their place in the market. She thus pledged to turn the company around, with the help of her professional and enthusiastic team.
Of course, due to the global recession, many people have been choosing to eat at home rather than go to a restaurant. With this in mind, Slice of Heaven launched a luxurious range of desserts into the retail market, even though it had been warned that the only way to enter this sector in these financially challenging times was with a ‘value’ range. However, everyone within the company knew that once the consumer tasted these fabulous products they would return again and again – the proof was most definitely in the pudding! It is a myth that only cheap will sell – quality rules! This quality was recently endorsed with their Tantilising Tiramisu winning 2 gold stars at London’s Great Taste Awards.
It comes as no surprise, therefore, that the company’s name is spreading far and wide, with Slice of Heaven already successfully selling product into the UK and Republic of Ireland, where it sees great growth potential. The sky, it seems, is the limit, with the entire team committed to ensuring that ‘Slice of Heaven’ becomes a household name, as it continues to push back the boundaries of excellence and supply its customers with desserts to die for … sending them straight to heaven!
