A Sweet New Slice of Heaven for Donaghadee

A new cafe set to open this weekend (Saturday 5th July) in Donaghadee will be a Slice of Heaven for the sweet-toothed amongst us. It is located at the Market House in Donaghadee.

A Sweet New Slice of Heaven for Donaghadee The grand building, originally the Court House has been lovingly restored with great opulence and elegance. Fabulous Arched Windows and crystal chandlers set the scene for a wonderful experience.

Owned by Donaghadee woman Heather Boyle and her partner Robert Jenkins, the cafe will offer a tempting array of desserts, cheesecakes and an exclusive new ice cream brand called Max Emoo.

Heather, an award-winning businesswoman in Northern Ireland and Robert a well-known auctioneer, already know their desserts have the recipe for success as their company has been supplying handmade cheesecakes and desserts to the catering and hospitality trade across Ireland for over 10 years.

The parent company, also called A Slice of Heaven, is based in Newtownards and their focus has always been on making fresh desserts as good as those you would make at home.  Their pastry team have won a number of Great Taste Awards and in fact A Slice of Heaven’s produce have been one of the best kept secrets of some major cafés and restaurants across the island.

Knowing they have a successful product, this move into a direct retail business seems like a logical next step for the Co Down business couple.

Heather said, "We are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring our delicious Slice of Heaven desserts directly to customers.  We are so passionate about the care and attention with which we make our products, it will be great to finally be able to share our customers' enjoyment!

"We are even more delighted to be able to open our first Slice of Heaven cafe in our hometown of Donaghadee.

"We hope it will be something a little bit different. Yes, it is focused on sweet treats but we'll also be doing a fantastic breakfast offering.  We'll have fresh pancakes, as well as fresh fruit salad, Clandeboye yoghurt and granola: so not all naughty treats!

"My daughter Emma is on board in this new venture and with her insight, we believe a cafe open in the early evenings for young people to meet up and hang out to chat, without being a pub, will be a very valuable addition to the local community: there's a real need for something like this in the town."

Heather has few special sweet ideas in store including a tasting plate or Assiette of mini desserts as well as a decadent four course dessert menu for the die-hard dessert lover! Afternoon Tea will be served in vintage china and silver teapots – gorgeous.

Open from 10 to 5 Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday and late nights on Thursday to Saturday, A Slice of Heaven will offer teas and coffees including an exclusive Italian coffee brand called “Antica - Nessun Dorma” (no prizes for opera singing to the waitress!!).

Perhaps the jewel in the crown of this tempting new hotspot is the launch of Slice of Heaven’s own brand of ice cream, “Max Emoo”.  Heather explained: "For many people who grew up in Co Down, Donaghadee has always been the place to go for an ice cream.  We have combined the best of our Slice of Heaven desserts with a delicious locally made ice cream to create Max Emoo. We'll have an initial range of 7 flavours which will include our Chocolate Brownie Bonanza, Heather's Homemade Honeycomb and of course Sensational Strawberry as well as a Champagne Sorbet that is to die for!

"We hope people visiting Co Down will pop in and try their best not to resist our temptations!  We will also have our desserts available to buy and take home and it's up to the customer whether they keep us a secret or share our little Slice of Heaven with their family and friends!"

The Mayor of North Down, Stephen McIlveen will be among the first to sample the goodies when A Slice of Heaven is officially opened at 2pm this Saturday.

A Slice of Heaven is at The Market House, New Street, Donaghadee and info can be found online at www.facebook.com/sliceofheavendessertcafe.
