60 Seconds with Carla McGlynn of Citi I am also the local site lead for a number of the Belfast Technology groups supporting day to day needs. As part of the Belfast Site Senior leadership team, I lead the University and Schools portfolio.

What has been your career journey so far?
I started my career as a java software developer in Belfast in 2001. I progressed through a number of roles (Business Analyst, Tester, Project Manager) before moving onto Citi in 2008 as a BA/PM. From there I moved through multiple roles; Foreign Exchange Technology team lead, Custody Tax Application Owner until I took on larger programs of work and teams, e.g. Technology Lead for the Markets Brexit program and most recently Lead for one of Citi’s Innovation initiatives driving new methods of payments across borders.

Describe yourself in 3 words
Passionate, Driven and Empathetic.

What is one skill that helps you most in your role?
Leading by example.

What advice do you have for women in your sector/industry/type of role?
Knock the door, ask questions, and be comfortable with not getting everything right all of the time!

Are there any exciting plans in the year ahead at Citi that you can share with us?
  • Growing the new team by another 100 people across the globe.
  • Improving our technology applications so we can deliver faster to our clients.
  • Watching talent within the organisation grow and succeed.

Who has been your biggest career inspiration and why?
My parents because they have worked hard and are both very different in what they bring to our family. This has shown me growing up first-hand the value that different skills / personality has on a wider group. Also, my manager, as he is very different to me, and I am continually inspired to grow and learn new things!
