60 Seconds with Deborah Walsh

Tell us about your role and your organisation

At Heal from Within, I work as a holistic therapist creating a calm, nurturing space where women can slow down and reconnect with themselves. My work centres on supporting the nervous system to shift out of stress and into a state where it feels safe to rest, digest, and reset.

Through gentle treatments and a supportive environment, I encourage women to pause from the pace of everyday life and prioritise their wellbeing. Whether someone is navigating healing, personal growth, spiritual exploration, or simply needs a moment of stillness, my intention is always that they feel held, celebrated, and supported.

Give us a brief overview of your career journey so far

I have worked closely with women throughout my entire career. I began as a beauty therapist, where I developed the ability to create calm, supportive environments and build meaningful connections. I later moved into healthcare, first as a healthcare assistant and then as a student midwife.

During my time in healthcare, I experienced burnout, which led me to reflect deeply and begin my own inward journey. Through this, I discovered that one of my greatest strengths is my ability to build trust and hold space for women in a compassionate, grounded way.

Having personally experienced anxiety, depression, and burnout, I felt called to use those experiences to support others. My background in the beauty industry gave me a strong foundation in helping women relax and feel cared for. With further training and continued learning, I realised that holistic support was where I was truly meant to focus my work.

Today, I combine my professional background with my lived experience to help women feel safe, supported, and deeply cared for as they take time for themselves and their wellbeing.

What is one skill that helps you most in your role and why?

Empathy is at the heart of everything I do. Being able to listen fully, understand deeply, and hold space with compassion allows women to feel safe, supported, and genuinely seen.

My lived experience brings authenticity to my work and enables me to connect with clients with honest understanding. This blend of empathy and personal insight creates a trusting, nurturing environment where both my clients and I benefit from the time we share together.

What advice do you have for women in your sector or industry?

I’m still fresh in this industry, but from my own journey I’ve learned the importance of believing in yourself, pushing through discomfort, and never comparing your path to anyone else’s. The clients who are meant for you will always align with you—and always charge your worth.

Are there any exciting plans in the year ahead within your organisation?

I hope to continue building a successful practice, deepen my knowledge, and eventually begin facilitating breathwork sessions and women’s circles. These are areas I feel deeply connected to and look forward to bringing into my work.

Who has been your biggest career inspiration and why?

One woman who truly inspired me is Alison, whom I met just as I was preparing to set up my business. She facilitated an introductory aromatherapy course and went out of her way to support me—offering guidance, advice, and refresher training in her own time, completely free of charge. Her motto has stayed with me ever since: “If you can help someone on their way, why wouldn’t you?”

I found her kindness and humility incredibly moving. We still keep in touch, and she continues to inspire me through her multiple roles in the wellness industry and her charity work. If I become even half the woman she is, I’ll feel incredibly grateful.

If you had to pick a soundtrack song to get you through the working day, what would it be?

During my working day, the music I use is always focused on relaxation. But I choose tracks that quietly empower women while they rest. One song I absolutely love is “Let the Light Come In” by Rose Cousins—a beautifully powerful and uplifting piece.
