60 Seconds with Deborah Walsh Tell us about your role and your organisation
At Heal from Within, I work as a holistic therapist, creating a calm, nurturing space where women are invited to slow down and reconnect with themselves. My work centres on supporting the nervous system to move out of stress and into a state where it feels safe enough to rest, digest, and reset.

Through holistic treatments and a supportive environment, I encourage women to pause from the pace of everyday life and prioritise their wellbeing. Whether someone is on a journey of healing, personal growth, spiritual exploration, or simply in need of deep rest, my intention is for every woman to feel held, celebrated, and supported.

Give us a brief overview of your career journey so far
Throughout my career, I have always worked closely with women. I began as a beauty therapist, where I developed strong interpersonal skills and learned how to create calm, supportive environments. I later moved into healthcare, working as a healthcare assistant before training as a student midwife.

While working in healthcare, I experienced burnout, which prompted me to step back, reflect, and begin my own journey inward. Through this process, I recognised that one of my greatest strengths is my ability to build trusting, meaningful connections with women and to hold space for them in a compassionate way.

Having personally experienced anxiety, depression, and burnout, I felt called to use those experiences positively to support others. My background in the beauty industry gave me a strong foundation in helping women relax and feel cared for, and with further upskilling and ongoing learning, I realised holistic support was where my heart truly lay.

Today, I combine my professional background with lived experience to help women feel safe, supported, and nurtured as they take time for themselves and their wellbeing.

What is one skill that helps you most in your role and why?
Empathy is one of the most important skills I bring to my role. Being able to truly listen, understand, and hold space in a compassionate way allows women to feel safe, supported, and seen.

Alongside this, my lived experience brings authenticity to the work I do, enabling me to connect with clients from a place of genuine understanding. I believe this combination of empathy and personal insight helps create a trusting environment where meaningful healing and connection can take place.

What advice do you have for women in your sector/industry/type of role?
Although I am relatively new to the industry, my journey has taught me how important it is to believe in yourself, push through discomfort, and avoid comparison. The clients who are meant for you will align with your work when you show up authentically. Above all, value yourself and always charge your worth.

Are there any exciting plans in the year ahead in your organisation that you can share with us?
My focus over the coming year is to continue building a successful practice, expand my knowledge, and further develop my skills. In time, I hope to begin facilitating breathwork sessions and women’s circles to deepen the sense of connection and community within my work.

Who has been your biggest career inspiration and why?
I’ve met many inspiring women along my journey, but one person who stands out is a woman named Alison, whom I met when I was considering setting up my business.
She facilitated an introductory aromatherapy course and went out of her way to offer support, guidance, and refresher training in her own time, entirely free of charge.

Her motto has always stayed with me: “If you can help someone on their way, why wouldn’t you?”

Her kindness and humility made a lasting impression on me. We are still in contact, and she continues to inspire me through the many roles she holds within the wellness industry, as well as her charity work. If I become even half the woman she is, I will feel incredibly grateful.

If you had to pick your soundtrack song to get you through the working day, what would it be?
During my working day, I use music that encourages deep relaxation. However, I’m also drawn to music that subtly empowers women while they rest. One song I particularly love is “Let the Light Come In” by Rose Cousins — a beautifully gentle yet powerful piece.
