Catherine Cooney is now leading the vibrant and energetic Corporate, Commercial & Charity team in Worthingtons solicitors after joining in May 2018. Catherine alongside her colleague Rachel Toner advise in all aspects of charity, corporate and commercial law and represent businesses, local and multi international companies, charities, housing associations and social enterprises.
 
Catherine and Rachel specialise in advising charity trustees, company directors and committee members and supporting their senior management teams. They advise business owners in all matters including shareholder agreements, share sales or purchases, setting up a company, leaving a company or partnership, franchise agreements, contracts and buying and selling businesses. Celia Worthington established the team and is now a Consultant to the practice providing support to the team.
 
Both Catherine and Rachel pride themselves on a pragmatic and concise approach to transactions keeping their client’s objectives and needs uppermost in their minds. The team has a depth of experience in acting on different sides of a corporate or charity transaction and provide a fast and efficient service.  
 
The team is supported by its experienced Employment, Commercial Litigation and Commercial Property teams led by Maxine Orr, Ciaran McConnell and Graham Pierce.
 
Catherine has been ranked in Chambers legal directory for the last two years in Charity Law in Northern Ireland and regularly delivers training to charity trustees and directors. Catherine’s clients have commented that she “has an excellent reputation for her comprehensive expertise in charity law with a high level of technical knowledge.” Catherine also sits on the board a local charity.
 
When Rachel graduated from Queens University she was awarded the McKane Medal and Scholarship for Jurisprudence and obtained a Masters in Human Rights Law. She qualified in 2015 joining Worthingtons in 2016 specialising in corporate, commercial and charity law. Rachel’s clients have commented that she, “was simply excellent, her customer care was superb,”…and that she is exceptional in her communication.   
 
Celia has over 30 years’ experience in this work and sits as a trustee on the board of two local charities. She was awarded a Royal Patron’s award in 2013 in connection with her involvement at board level on a local housing association. Celia is also noted as a recognised practitioner in charities law in Chambers UK 2018 ratings.
