  1. Tell us about KMC Mortgages & Protection and your role within!

I am a mortgage and protection adviser, and business owner, at KMC Mortgages and Protection. I offer professional advice on mortgages for first time buyers, home movers or those needing to re-mortgage. I am most passionate about making mortgages easier to understand and helping first time buyers get on the property ladder.

When someone takes out a mortgage, and therefore a large debt, it is often the first time they think about putting personal insurance in place, which is why mortgage and protection advice goes hand in hand. As well as helping you get the home, I help you keep it by recommending the most suitable protection package for each individual.

I advise on life cover, critical illness cover and income protection. Arranging cover with an adviser is free and it means you will have the right cover for your individual circumstances.

I am passionate about helping people realise the importance of insurance, I believe everybody needs some form of protection but unfortunately, they don’t think about it until the worst has already happened. People now adays insure their phones, pets and cars, to mention a few, but often insure the most important thing, themselves.

I had been planning this business for a long time but finally took the plunge and left my employed role in April 2021 and started trading in June 2021. I absolutely love helping people buy their home. I think our homes are so important they provide us with security and are the main hub of our life.

  1. What has been your career journey so far?

Having faced homelessness at a young age I was always interested in helping people with their housing issues, this led me to study housing management at University of Ulster and I worked as a housing officer in a housing association for 2 years.

I wanted my next role to be closer to home, to allow me more time with my son who was growing up so fast. This led to me gaining employment in a financial advisers, where I worked for 5 years. During my time in this job, I couldn’t shake my interest and passion for property and helping people get their own home, so I decided to study for my CEMAP exams (Certificate in Mortgage Advice) and to start planning the launch of my own business.

  1. Describe yourself in 3 words.

Determined, resilient and soft hearted.

  1. What is the 1 skill that helps you the most in your role?

I think my understanding / relatability helps me in my role, I’m just an ordinary girl who understands the hurdles people face in regard to housing issues, and I have a genuine passion to help them.

  1. Do you have any advice for your fellow Women in Business members?
Go for it – if you have a passion don’t let the idea go – keep taking all the small steps and you will get there eventually. Write your goals down. I don’t know why but there is something powerful about taking pen to paper and I love reading back over old journals and seeing just how far I’ve came.

  1. Are there any exciting plans on the way for KMC Mortgages & Protection?
As I am not long opened, for now I am focusing on growing the business – however I hope to employ my own admin within the next year and down the line get another adviser on board.

  1. Who is an inspiration in your career?
I don’t have one particular person who is my inspiration – anyone who has been brave enough to put themselves out there I admire, it takes guts to do it – as an introvert this has been difficult for me as every single day, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone.

  1. What’s your favourite break time snack?
Chocolate – unfortunately, it isn’t good on the waistline.

  1. If you had to pick your soundtrack song to get you through the working day, what would it be?
As strange as a lot of people find it – I actually like to work in silence. I’m a deep thinker and when I’m in the zone I don’t like distractions.

  1. How can your fellow WIB members keep up to date with you?
WIB Members can keep up to date with me on Facebook, InstagramLinkedIn and on kcmmortages.com
