Kerry Aston of The Movement Medic/Belfast Sport & Health Clinic Ltd

As a medical doctor specialising in rheumatology with over 15 years of experience in the NHS, I have a deep understanding of arthritis, autoimmune, and inflammatory conditions. However, my passion for promoting health and preventing chronic diseases led me to further training in sports and exercise medicine, as well as lifestyle medicine with the Institute of Functional Medicine.

I firmly believe that our daily choices, including lifestyle habits, social and emotional well-being, and environmental factors, significantly impact our overall health. Unfortunately, the current healthcare system focuses on treating symptoms rather than preventing chronic diseases, which places a significant burden on the system. This approach also means that many symptoms that do not fall within a disease classification are often ignored or dismissed, and people are not given the support they need.

As an advocate for lifestyle medicine, I strongly believe that lifestyle changes are key to preventing and reversing chronic diseases and also the key to managing these unexplained & frustrating symptoms.

My own personal experience and passion for promoting health and wellness have led me to focus on optimising women's health and performance. I understand the struggles that many women face due to the confusing messages and misinformation within the health and fitness industry.

Most of the research conducted on health and fitness recommendations is based on male physiology and often doesn't take into account the varying physiological changes that women experience throughout their lifespan. This lack of consideration has left many women struggling with low energy, brain fog, and body composition issues.

I believe that health and fitness should be simple, enjoyable, and sustainable, rather than a source of stress and confusion. My goal is to provide evidence-based information that considers the specific needs of women, empowering them to make informed choices and reach their optimal potential. My aim is to help women create a healthy and balanced lifestyle that they can maintain in the long-term, and that supports their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
