My Impostor Syndrome Is Doing Everything To Stop Me From Writing This.....

I am a classically trained marketer with extensive experience in the US and the UK. I have been entrusted with some of the most amazing brands. I have hopped industries and business models on the turn of a dime. I have moved cities, countries and continents without a care in the world. So why am I finding it so hard to take the leap and start selling myself?

I am trying to blame it on my procrastination gene. No. That is not it. I have come to some massive realizations about myself in the last few weeks. Whilst I am gregarious, passionate and enthusiastic, I am really an introvert who feels most comfortable being behind the scenes and letting my work speak for itself. You would never guess this if you met me. I am very good at hiding my introvert tendencies.

In some ways, that is great for me as I enter my new role as a brand consultant. My job is to help marketing teams be better – the wind beneath their wings so to speak. But it does pose a problem if part of your job is to sell your own capabilities. I need to market myself! So here goes……. After 20 plus years in the marketing industry, I have decided to pursue my passion for brand marketing. I have set up my own consultancy, The Brand Dividend, to build world-class brands and marketing teams.

I have been fortunate to work with Denman and help them reset their brand and commercial strategy. I am now taking my first tentative steps to sell myself across Northern Ireland. I have only just joined Women in Business. I know I should have joined this a long time ago but I gave that imposter voice too much power.

I am looking forward to my first event. I know my tummy may squirm when I go to Arthur House but I know I need to find some good people who can help build me as I help others to build their brand. You can find out more about me and The Brand Dividend at www.thebranddividend.com.
