Having tasted a little flavour of the hospitality industry and feeling that there was always something more inside that she knew she was longing for, she took the leap into self-employment in 2005 and opened up her own sandwich & coffee shop, Relish in her home town of Magherafelt.

Tanya McGeehan, Managing Director of MCG Investments Ltd

During an exciting career, Tanya has operated in a number of different roles including a period on the foreign exchange dealing floor of Ulster Bank, Dublin; moving on then to work in Sales & Marketing for the Hastings Hotel Group. Having tasted a little flavour of the hospitality industry and feeling that there was always something more inside that she knew she was longing for, she took the leap into self-employment in 2005 and opened up her own sandwich & coffee shop, Relish in her home town of Magherafelt.

But Tanya wanted to start her own family with her husband Stephen and in order to establish a healthy work/life balance, her ‘first’ child – Relish, had to take a back seat and so she sold the business on and moved into a role within Cookstown District Council, with more favourable hours to suit a young family. Tanya has 3 children, Shea (14), Eva (13) and Mia Rose (9).

In 2009, Tanya’s father was tragically struck down with the debilitating illness, Early Onset Dementia at the very young age of 57. Tanya, as the eldest of 4 girls, had no choice but to step in and take over running the family’s property business whilst her mother cared for her dad before his untimely passing in March 2012. Tanya continues to manage the family’s property portfolio to this day and it is through this unplanned pathway, where Tanya found her love of all things property!

In 2017, Tanya founded MCG Investments Ltd, a NI based property investment and development company.

As Managing Director of MCG Investments, Tanya is increasingly being recognised as one of Belfast’s leading female property entrepreneurs. It is more than just a business for Tanya, who inherited her passion for property investment from her dad, Patsy Duffy, who was a successful property developer.

During the recent pandemic Tanya has pivoted her business from solely working on properties and projects owned and controlled by the family, to partnering with private investors and joint venture collaborations. As a result, business is booming and coupled with the buoyancy in the local housing market, MCG Investments is set to go from strength to strength in the future.

Asked about what her job entails regularly, Tanya says:

“Our business is based on finding deals and sourcing finance for our development projects. The most important aspect of my job is relationship building. Fostering strong, long lasting partnerships with all of the stakeholders we work with, is key to our success. The best advice I ever received was to push myself outside of my comfort zone and not to be afraid to fail or make mistakes as those experiences leave the clues to your next success!”
